The Influence of Locus of Control and Self-Confidence in Career Decision-Making on Students’ Career Maturity

Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of locus of control and career decision making self-efficacy on students' career maturity, both simultaneously and partially. This study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The population consisted of all grade XI students from three senior high schools in Surabaya, totaling 953 students, with a sample of 165 students selected through simple random sampling using the Yamane formula at a 10% margin of error. Data were collected using three Likert-scale psychological instruments, namely the career maturity scale, the locus of control scale, and the career decision making self-efficacy scale, all of which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that locus of control and career decision making self-efficacy simultaneously have a significant effect on career maturity, with an R² value of 0.668, indicating that 66.8% of the variance in career maturity is explained by the two variables. Partially, career decision making self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on career maturity, whereas locus of control does not show a significant influence. These findings indicate that students' confidence in their ability to make career decisions is a more determining factor in enhancing career maturity compared to general self-control orientation.
