Addiction Counseling for Drug Addicts’ Recovery at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Rehabilitation Center

Abstract
Drug abuse is a serious problem in Indonesia that requires comprehensive handling through psychosocial-based drug rehabilitation. This study aims to provide an in-depth description of the implementation of addiction counseling at the National Narcotics Board (BNN) Rehabilitation Center in Kubu Raya Regency, highlighting the counselor’s role and supporting factors in addict recovery. Using a qualitative approach in the form of a survey study, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and documentation to explore counseling services, process stages, family involvement, and factors that support or hinder rehabilitation. The findings reveal that counseling is conducted systematically through initial assessment, intervention planning, individual and group counseling, family therapy, evaluation, and aftercare focused on relapse prevention. Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) were applied to strengthen client motivation, reshape negative thought patterns, and enhance coping strategies. BNN Kubu Raya is uniquely recognized as the best performer after BNN Kota in counseling resume writing. In conclusion, strengthening counselor capacity and cross-sector collaboration is essential to optimize rehabilitation success.
