Academic Ethics Of Using AI In Assignments For History Students

The development of AI-based technology has had a significant impact on various aspects, including education, particularly Chatgpt. The presence of Chatgpt makes it easier for students to obtain information quickly. However, this raises concerns regarding compliance with academic ethics. This study aims to analyze students' understanding and application of academic ethics in using Chatgpt in writing AI-based history assignments. The research method used was qualitative-descriptive. The subjects of this study were history students at Surabaya State University, class of 2023 and 2024. The results showed that most students used Chatgpt as a writing aid and were familiar with the ethical principles of using AI. However, they had not yet fully implemented these ethics. Analysis using the SOLO taxonomy revealed that students' understanding ranged from pre-structural (low) to relational (high) levels, with none reaching the extended abstract level. This indicates that although some students' understanding has reached a high level, there is still potential for ethical violations. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the integration of academic ethics literacy in the use of AI in the learning process.
