Development of an Early Childhood Education Curriculum Based on Local Culture in the Context of Global Competence: A Literature Review

The development of the Early Childhood Education (PAUD) curriculum needs to be done contextually by taking into account the characteristics of the educational unit, including the local culture that exists in the children's environment. This is in line with the theoretical and pedagogical view that young children learn optimally through concrete experiences that are close to their daily lives. Local culture provides an authentic context for play, exploration, and inquiry activities that enable children to learn holistically by integrating cognitive, social-emotional, linguistic, moral, and motor aspects. Furthermore, in the framework of 21st-century education, strengthening global competencies does not mean neglecting the local context, but rather starting from an understanding and appreciation of one's own culture as a foundation for interacting at a broader level. This study aims to analyze, formulate a conceptual model, or identify principles for developing a local culture-based curriculum in early childhood education through a review of theoretical foundations, previous research findings, and Indonesian government policies that emphasize the analysis of educational unit characteristics. The method used is a narrative literature study with thematic analysis of relevant journal articles, books, and policy documents. The results of the study show that the local culture-based ECE curriculum is in line with the principles of meaningful and child-centered learning and strengthens the character of young children.
