Study On The Effectiveness Of Peer Tutors In Preventing Sexual Violence Among Elementary School

Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of peer tutoring in improving elementary students’ knowledge, attitudes, and assertive skills in preventing sexual violence. A quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent pretest–posttest control group design was applied. The participants were 60 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental group (30 students) and a control group (30 students). The experimental group received a peer tutoring intervention, while the control group followed regular classroom activities. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s mean score, which increased from 55.9 to 83.6, with a 27.7-point gain. In contrast, the control group experienced only a 5.6-point increase. Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests confirmed significant differences within and between groups (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that peer tutoring effectively enhances students’ awareness, assertiveness, and preventive behavior. The study recommends integrating peer tutoring programs into school policies and preventive curricula to support efforts in combating sexual violence among children.
