Post-Publication Discussion Policy

1. Policy Statement

Jurnal SPORTIF: Jurnal Penelitian Pembelajaran, published by Universitas Nusantara PGRI Kediri in collaboration with Asosiasi Prodi Olahraga Perguruan Tinggi PGRI (APOPI), is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record.

The journal recognises that scholarly evaluation continues after publication. Constructive discussion, critical examination, and evidence-based responses to published research are essential to advancing knowledge in physical education, sports coaching, sports pedagogy, physical activity, sports biomechanics, sports physiology, sports psychology, sports tourism, and traditional sports.

This policy is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices concerning post-publication discussions and corrections.

2. Scope of Post-Publication Discussion

Jurnal SPORTIF welcomes scholarly comments and concerns relating to articles published in the journal.

Post-publication discussion may address:

  • Research methodology, study design, sampling procedures, and data analysis.

  • Accuracy and reliability of reported findings, including statistical results and research instruments.

  • Interpretation of findings and their implications for sport science and physical education.

  • Research ethics, including informed consent, participant protection, and ethical approval.

  • Potential errors, omissions, inconsistencies, or undisclosed competing interests.

  • Alternative interpretations supported by relevant scientific evidence.

All discussions must focus on scholarly content rather than personal criticism of authors or other individuals.

3. Submission of Comments and Concerns

Readers, researchers, practitioners, authors, and other members of the academic community may submit post-publication comments or concerns to the Editorial Office of Jurnal SPORTIF.

Submissions should include:

  1. The title, author(s), and DOI or URL of the published article.

  2. A clear explanation of the issue or concern.

  3. Relevant supporting evidence, references, or analytical information.

  4. The contributor's name, affiliation, and contact details.

  5. A declaration of any relevant conflicts of interest.

Comments and concerns may be submitted through the journal's official editorial email: jurnal.sportif@unpkediri.ac.id, with the subject line Post-Publication Discussion – [Article Title or DOI].

Individuals reporting suspected research misconduct may request confidential treatment of their identity. The Editorial Team will assess credible concerns on the basis of the available evidence.

4. Editorial Assessment and Review

All substantive post-publication comments and concerns will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief or designated members of the Editorial Team.

The editorial assessment may involve:

  • Examining the relevance, clarity, and supporting evidence of the submission.

  • Reviewing the original article, including its methodology, results, and conclusions.

  • Requesting clarification or additional information from the contributor.

  • Inviting the original author(s) to provide a response.

  • Consulting independent subject specialists or statistical reviewers when necessary.

  • Referring serious ethical concerns to the relevant institution or research ethics committee where appropriate.

Editorial decisions will be based on scientific merit, publication ethics, and the reliability of the evidence presented.

Editors with relevant conflicts of interest must not participate in decisions concerning the affected article.

5. Author Responses and Scholarly Dialogue

Authors of the original article will normally be given an opportunity to respond to substantive criticisms or questions concerning their published work.

Responses should address the issues raised objectively and be supported by appropriate explanations, references, or additional analyses where necessary.

Where appropriate, the Editorial Team may facilitate scholarly dialogue through a published commentary, author response, editorial note, or another suitable form of academic communication.

The journal reserves the right to subject substantive comments and responses to editorial assessment or independent peer review before publication.

6. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

When post-publication discussion identifies errors or concerns affecting the scholarly record, the Editorial Team will assess the need for appropriate corrective action.

Possible outcomes include:

a. Correction (Erratum or Corrigendum)

A correction may be issued when an identifiable error requires amendment but does not invalidate the article's principal findings or conclusions.

b. Expression of Concern

An Expression of Concern may be issued when substantial questions about the reliability or integrity of an article remain unresolved and readers need to be informed while further assessment is undertaken.

c. Retraction

A retraction may be issued when an article contains serious errors or unreliable findings, or when substantiated research or publication misconduct undermines confidence in the published work.

d. No Further Editorial Action

Where concerns are unsupported, have been adequately addressed, or do not warrant changes to the scholarly record, the Editorial Team may close the matter with an appropriate explanation.

Any formal correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction will be clearly identified and linked to the affected publication where technically possible. The original scholarly record will not be altered without appropriate disclosure.

Decisions concerning retractions will be guided by the relevant COPE Retraction Guidelines.

7. Research Integrity and Ethical Concerns

Allegations involving plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or violations of research ethics will be assessed in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics Policy and relevant COPE guidance.

Where necessary, the journal may seek information from the authors, their institutions, research ethics committees, or other relevant parties.

The Editorial Team will distinguish between honest errors, legitimate scientific disagreement, and potential misconduct.

8. Transparency, Confidentiality, and Editorial Independence

Jurnal SPORTIF is committed to handling post-publication discussions fairly, impartially, and as promptly as reasonably possible.

The Editorial Team will:

  • Respect the confidentiality of sensitive information during investigations.

  • Provide relevant parties with a fair opportunity to respond.

  • Avoid discriminatory treatment and inappropriate external influence.

  • Reject personal attacks, abusive statements, and unsupported accusations.

  • Maintain appropriate records of substantive concerns and editorial decisions.

  • Communicate formal editorial actions transparently when they affect the published scholarly record.

9. Policy Implementation and Review

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Team are responsible for implementing this policy and reviewing its effectiveness.

The policy may be revised to reflect developments in publication ethics, editorial practices, and relevant COPE guidance.
