Abstract

Penggunaan minyak goreng bekas sebagai bahan bakar alternatif merupakan salah satu cara untuk mengurangi limbah dan mendukung pengembangan energi terbarukan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh transesterifikasi biodiesel dari minyak goreng bekas terhadap kinerja mesin diesel. Biodiesel diproduksi melalui proses transesterifikasi menggunakan metanol dan katalis NaOH. Biodiesel yang dihasilkan diuji pada mesin diesel dan dibandingkan dengan bahan bakar diesel konvensional. Torsi, daya, dan konsumsi bahan bakar spesifik diukur pada kecepatan mesin mulai dari 400 hingga 1200 rpm. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa pada kecepatan rendah hingga menengah, biodiesel dapat menghasilkan daya rata-rata 4,14% lebih tinggi daripada diesel. Namun, konsumsi bahan bakar spesifik biodiesel meningkat sekitar 9,5% dibandingkan dengan diesel. Nilai kalor biodiesel yang lebih rendah daripada bahan bakar diesel menyebabkan peningkatan konsumsi bahan bakar. Dalam pengujian jangka pendek, biodiesel berbasis minyak bekas terbukti sebagai bahan bakar alternatif potensial untuk digunakan pada mesin diesel tanpa modifikasi pada konstruksi mesin.
