Abstract

In this research,  metal matrix composite is made from pure copper powder which will be combined with reinforcing material of graphite powder, and than be testing on EDM machines. The mixer method materials is carried out by the Powder metallurgical process through the stages of mixing, compaction and continued with the heating process with a temperature of 800 oC (sintering). In this study, we want to know the effect of pressure due to the metallurgical powder process on the material wear rate (MRR) and electrode wear rate (ERR) on steel material ST.37 EDM Chimer EZ machine With fixed feeding parameters, 2 Amperes current and 5 mm depth. Tests carried out namely hardness and microstructure. From the results of this study indicate that with increasing pressure compacting MRR material wear rate and hardness is increasing, while the lowest wear rate occurs at compacting pressure of 25,000 KN.
